Hazlewood, Schulte honored for record-setting performances

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam) and freshman Trevor Hazlewood (Corpus Christi, Texas) were both honored for their record-setting performances this weekend. They were named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Schulte, who won his second consecutive Men's Swimmer of the Week, played a part in setting two pool records on Saturday in the Bulldogs' 197-90 victory over Holy Cross, setting a record in the 200 medley relay (1:34.51) and 100 breast (56.74). The owner of the MAAC's top time in the 100 breast (55.02) and 200 breast (2:05.02), Schulte added wins in the in the 200 breast and 50 free.

Hazlewood re-set his school record that he set 12 days earlier in the 1-meter, diving to a score of 279.60, which beat the old record by a point. He also won the 3-meter (285.90) to lead the Bulldogs to victory on senior day.

Both swimmers will lead Bryant into the MAAC Championships, which opens competition February 14 at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center on the campus of Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
