Men’s tennis rolls past Hofstra
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Powered by a pair of early doubles wins and then five straight-set victories in singles competition, the Bryant University men's tennis team took care of Hofstra, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in East Hartford, Conn. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 9-5 on the season while the Pride slipped to 3-7 overall.
In doubles play, senior Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and freshman Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) teamed up to capture the third slot, 8-3, before Hart Callahan (Haverford, Pa.) and Connor Crowley (London, Ontario) took the second spot, 9-8, for the early point.
Turning to individual competition, Balestrieri continued to put up points with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Chris Damion at No. 2 singles while Parziale downed Ben Thompson-Star 6-4, 6-2 at the No.3 spot. Callahan went on to defeat Matt Gennell 6-3, 6-2 after rookie Nolan Gelman (Dix Hills, N.Y.) topped Jon Disley 6-0, 6-1 to capture No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
The Black and Gold head right back out to the courts on Sunday, March 20 when they take on Brown in Providence, R.I.
