Bulldogs top UConn, 8-5, Wednesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind a strong showing from top to bottom in singles competition, the Bryant University men's tennis team picked up a big win over Connecticut, 8-5, Wednesday afternoon in Storrs, Conn.

Senior captain Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) led the way with a perfect 2-0 day, picking up wins over Wayne Harrell, 6-3, 6-3, at no. 1 singles and Jacob Spreyer and Chris Toner, 8-6, in no. 2 doubles with teammate Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.).

Freshman Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) was impressive at the no. 3 spot, earning his 15th win of the year over Ryan Carr, 7-6, 6-2, while junior Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) and sophomore Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) took care of business at no. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

Also in singles play, sophomores Guillaume Sabourin (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and Munir Serin (Mersin, Turkey), and junior Joshua Rubinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) each earned solid wins on the day. In total, Bryant took seven of nine singles matches.

With just three dates remaining on Bryant's 2014 regular season slate, the Bulldogs will next host Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday for a rematch of the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Bryant University tennis courts.
