Templeman, Kliger take doubles title at UConn Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind strong performances from sophomore John Templeman (Midland, Mich.) and Joshua Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.), the Bryant University men's tennis team put together a solid Day 1 showing at the UConn Invitational on Friday.

The duo ran through four opposing teams, including two pairings from Quinnipiac, to capture the A Doubles Flight Friday evening in Storrs, Conn.

"I am very proud of what we accomplished on Friday," said Bryant head coach Ron Gendron. "It's a big deal for of our guys to win. Our culture is very special; it doesn't matter who is competing, everyone is on the same page."

After taking down BU's Jay Leelavanich and Stefan Lemire, 8-6, in the opening round, Templeman and Kliger knocked off UConn's Parker Goldstein and Jon Edwards to set up two potential showdowns with Quinnipiac.

In the semifinals, the Bulldog duo squeaked out an 8-7 win over Kei Ezaka and Jonas Kuwert, before breezing by E4ric Ambrosio and Julian Rozenstein, 8-4, in the final. The flight title is the second for Templeman on the season as the Black and Gold continue to impress early in fall action.

Bryant continues play at the UConn Invite Saturday before wrapping up on Sunday.
