No. 1 Bulldogs advance to Sunday’s NEC Final, take down No. 5 Wagner, 4-0, on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team was forced to play indoors due to steady morning showers but was not faltered in its 4-0 victory over Wagner in Saturday's Northeast Conference Semifinals.

The No. 1 doubles match resulted in a tough 6-4 victory for the Bulldogs, as the pair of sophomore Nick Lamart (Raleigh, N.C.) and frosh Michael Plutt (Weston, Fla.) took care of business. After No. 2 doubles went unfinished, the No. 3 pair of sophomores Josh Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) handled their match, 6-2.

The two-time defending NEC champion Bulldogs were carried by three underclassmen in the only three singles matches to finish. Sophomore Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) trounced Eric Poland, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, freshman Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, TX) controlled Allen Wang in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles and Ortiz-Garcia earned an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 singles flight over Jeremy Nuss.

The Bulldogs will get under way at 9:00 a.m. in Sunday's final, and will take on third-seeded Saint Francis U.
