Bulldogs drop two 6-1 decisions at Buffalo and Princeton over the weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team suffered back-to-back, 6-1, losses at Buffalo and Princeton over the weekend.

"We played two very talented and well-coached teams," said head coach Ron Gendron. "After a poor start on Saturday, I am proud of how we competed on Sunday."

After the Bulls (5-4) swept the doubles point, red-shirt sophomore Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) claimed the Bulldogs' (5-9) only point at No. 1 singles. The NEC Player of the Month handled Hao Sheng Koay, 6-2, 6-1.

Junior Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Guido Argentini (Boca Raton, Fla.) both competed hard, but Jakubowski was dealt a 6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 3 singles and Argentini a 6-3, 6-3 overthrow at No. 5.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs faced off against the Tigers (8-6) in which they faced the same 6-1 decision that they did the day before. Again, Kuhar scored the Bulldogs' only point at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 win over Alexander Day.

"Matt Kuhar proved that he is one of the best players in the region," said Gendron. "He is playing some solid tennis right now."

Prior to Kuhar's singles victory, the Tigers solidified the doubles point, winning at all three spots. Jakubowski and Argentini faced the same outcome, as they both fell, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. Junior Josh Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.) held his own against Payton Holden at No. 2 singles, but was ultimately defeated, 6-3, 6-4.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, March 15, at MIT at 4 p.m.
