Bulldogs top Seahawks, 7-0, before edging out Huskies, 4-3

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team complemented a dominant, 7-0, win over NEC competitor Wagner with a 4-3 edge over nonconference foe UConn on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (8-11, 2-0 NEC) came out strong against the Seahawks (10-6, 3-1), sweeping the doubles point, including redshirt sophomore Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Luke Lorenz's (Colorado Springs, Colo.) 7-5 decision at No. 1 doubles.

Kuhar continued his success in singles play, topping Amatoliy Lashkul, 7-5, 7-6 (6), at No. 1 singles. Lorenz followed suit with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. Junior Josh Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.) defeated Dale Sandy, 6-2, 7-6 (4), at No. 2 singles.

After dropping the first set, 6-4, sophomore Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) sealed the point at No. 4 singles, defeating Dylan Walters, 6-3, 6-3, in the final two sets. Classmate Michael Plutt (Weston, Fla.) won, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5, while junior Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) was victorious, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.

VS. UConn

The Huskies (8-8, 0-2 AAC) took the 1-0 edge over the Bulldogs after capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

UConn earned its final two points at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Freshman Guido Argentini (Boca Raton, Fla.) captured a point at No. 1 singles, taking down Christopher Toner, 6-3, 6-2, while classmate Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) defeated Jack McLister, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.

Sophomore Scott Plutt's (Weston, Fla.) win at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, tied the matched, 3-3, before freshman Andrew Quiros' (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) victory at No. 5 singles, lifted the Bulldogs to a 4-3 edge over the Huskies. Quiros took down Amaud Valentin in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Next, the Bulldogs travel to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, April 8, at 1 p.m.
