Incoming men's tennis freshman Grant Pertile wins doubles title at ITA Summer Circuit

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Incoming Bryant University men's tennis freshman Grant Pertile (Jamaica Plains, Mass.) and his partner Andrew Imrie won the doubles title at the ITA Summer Circuit hosted at Yale University over the weekend.

Pertile and Imrie had a bye in the first round before winning four-straight matches to claim the doubles title.

"What a great way for an incoming freshmen to start his college career," head coach Ron Gendron said. "I couldn't be happier for Grant and his partner! The big win vs the one seed must have been thrilling for these young men."

Seeded fourth, Pertile and Imrie opened play with an 8-7 victory over Adam Lee and Alexander Roti in the round of 16. They then earned an 8-6 win against the fifth-seeded duo of Ethan Bershtein and Benjamin Biswas.

That set up a showdown with the top-seeded duo of Aaron Sandberg and Paul Gota in the semis. In a thrilling match, Pertile and Imrie were able to take down the No. 1 seed, 8-7. They then cruised to the doubles title with an 8-4 victory over the third-seeded doubles team of Sumukh Pathi and Alan Dubrovsky.

About ITA Summer Circuit powered by UTR
The ITA Summer Circuit was created to provide college players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year-round. Although the primary purpose of the circuit is to provide incoming freshman and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events are categorized as "open"; therefore, anyone (including high level juniors and adults) is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member. The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of 52 events over six consecutive weekends, beginning the last weekend in June and continuing through the last weekend in July.
