Belmatch named NEC Rookie of the Month

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's tennis freshman Philip Belmatch (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Month.

Belmatch was outstanding during the month of October, going 4-1 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles action. His singles action included a 'D' flight title at the Farnsworth Invitational. Belmatch is the second-straight Bulldog rookie to win a monthly honor, joining Trent Massam (Wellington, New Zealand).

Competing at the Farnsworth Invite, Belmatch downed FDU's William Bourne (6-3, 6-1), Temple's Michael Haelen (0-6, 6-1, 10-3), Lehigh's Bryant Born (6-4, 7-6 (0)) and St. John's Federico Ruiz Acevedo (6-4, 7-6 (7-5)) on his way to the 'D' flight championship.

Belmatch and senior Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also advanced to the 'B' flight doubles final at the Farnsworth Invite, falling to the Lehigh duo of Jack Martin-Dyer and Jacob Edelchik, 8-4.
