BRYANT SPLITS OPENING DAY AT TIGER INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team wasted little time picking up its first victory of the 2013 campaign, topping Tennessee St., 10-4, in its opening game of the Tiger Invitational in Auburn, Ala.,

GAME 1

The Bulldogs (1-1) were led by their two reigning All-Northeast Conference selections junior Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) and sophomore Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) who combined for seven RBIs in the game.

After finding themselves down, 3-2, after three and a half innings the Bulldogs exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a three-run shot by Mable. A Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) single in same inning plated two more Bulldogs, as Bryant coasted to its first victory as a full Division I program.

Senior Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.) allowed just two earned runs and struck out one batter in 6.1 innings pitched en route to her first win of the season. Mable and Velasquez both collected two hits on the day, including one home run a piece, while junior Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base.

GAME 2

In Bryant's second game of the tournament, the Bulldogs fell to host Auburn, 10-0, in five innings.

The Black and Gold struggled to get the bats going, recording only three hits against Auburn's Hilary Mavromat. In her first career start, freshman Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) allowed just five earned runs in 4.2 innings, striking out one and issuing two walks. Madsen also helped herself, collecting one of Bryant's three hits on the afternoon.

Auburn broke open the game with five runs in the first two innings, and then put the game away with five more runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs will return to the diamond on Saturday when they faceoff with Indiana St. at 11 a.m. ET.
