SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball teams continues regional play, taking on Connecticut in a doubleheader on Wednesday in Storrs, Conn.

The Bulldogs (1-21) are still in search for their first win in seven years against the Huskies (11-20, 1-2 AAC), as UConn dominates the Division I series, 6-1, winning 10-2 in their last meeting at Bryant on April 22, 2014. Bryant defeated UConn, 1-0, on April 28, 2009 season, beating the Huskies at their home park.

The Black and Gold continue to struggle, recording their worst Division I start, but look to turn it around in New England play. Last season Bryant went 2-6 against nonleague regional opponents and start this year 0-1 against the same category of competitors.

Bryant enters the matchup after falling to Boston College, 2-0, last week at Conaty Park. The Bulldogs were relatively quiet at-bat, totaling only two hits as the Eagles' pitcher struck out 11 batters.

Senior Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) hits .274 in her 62 at-bats, while leading the team with 10 runs and 17 hits this season. Junior Taylor Burger (Killingworth, Conn.) continues to lead the team with four multi-hit games. Burger also tops the squad with eight RBI, but the Bulldogs hit just .176 as a team.

The Bryant pitching staff boasts a 5.30 ERA after the first 22 games, while freshman Colby Norris (Toano, Va.) leads the group with 33 strike outs, averaging 4.01 per game.

The Huskies are coming off a three-game series at Memphis where they finished 1-2, dropping their most recent game, 2-1. UConn is batting .246 and have hit 11 home runs as a team. Lexi Gifford and Dominique Pinto both lead the team with 15 RBI, respectively, while Gifford bats .283 and Pinto, .200. This season, 12 Huskies have scored, as the team posts 102 runs in the first 31 games, averaging 3.29 per outing.

On the mound, UConn has posted a 3.23 ERA. Kayla Doty is 3-2 with a 2.52 ERA in her 16 appearances. The Huskies have posted just 104 strike outs in 208.1 innings, committing 96 errors on the mound.
