Monroe named Co-NEC Player of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University softball senior Rachel Monroe (Southwick, Mass.) was named the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Monroe batted an even .500 over the Bulldogs' four games, going 7-for-14 at the plate. The senior homered twice in the first game on Saturday versus LIU Brooklyn and now leads the team with three on the season. The shortstop also drove in 10 runs over the weekend.

Monroe is the first Bulldog to win a major conference award this season, and the first to win Player of the Week since Taylor Burger won the award on April 27, 2015.

This season, the Bryant senior is enjoying a career-best season. Monroe has set career-highs in home runs (three), RBI (17), average (.324), slugging (.500) and on-base percentage (.378). She is a double short of tying her career high, set in the 2016 season as a sophomore.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when the team hosts Providence in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
