Bryant heads to Western Pennsylvania for a pair of NEC doubleheaders

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Locked in a tight battle for playoff positioning, the Bryant University softball team heads to western Pennsylvania to take on Robert Morris and Saint Francis U this weekend in Northeast Conference action.

Series History

The Colonials hold a 12-5 advantage in the series, winning each of the last seven meeting between the two teams.

The Bulldogs own an all-time 9-7 margin against the Red Flash, but Saint Francis has taken each of the last four meetings.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

Bryant enters the weekend with a 10-23 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Northeast Conference games.

Senior Rachel Monroe (Southwick, Mass.) enters the weekend with a nine-game hitting streak, dating back to game two of Bryant's doubleheader at Hartford. Of those nine games, four of them have been multi-hit outings and is batting .464 in conference games with two homers.

Freshman Morgan Powell (Murrieta, Calif.) is also on a streak heading into the weekend, hitting safely in five consecutive outings. She went a combined 2-for-5 in last weekend's doubleheader at Sacred Heart, bringing her average to .450 in conference games.

Monroe is also tied atop the team leaderboard with three home runs, along with freshman Dakota Biloedeau (Milford, N.H.) and junior Jessica Gradillas (Nogales, Ariz.).

Sophomore Tiffany Bell (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) has displayed the speed in conference play, stealing six bases in eight games.

Another freshman, pitcher Sarah McKeveny (Bohemia, N.Y.), has come on strong in conference play, winning both of her starts in complete-game fashion. She has displayed a 1.43 ERA in three conference appearances with 12 strikeouts.

Scouting the Colonials

Robert Morris enters the weekend with a 10-26 record overall and 1-5 in conference matchups. The Colonials have won both of their home games this season.

Natalie Higgins and Briana Bunner lead Robert Morris in hitting, with Higgins hitting .363 on the year and Bunner at a .319 clip. They are two of four Colonials with a team-high two home runs on the season.

Abrielle McCartney is also a dependent source of offense, driving in 18 RBI on the year, which is second on the team.

Madison Riggle leads the Colonials in the circle, entering the weekend with a 4-9 record and 4.33 ERA. She has thrown a team-high six complete games and 95.1 total innings on the year.

Scouting the Red Flash

Saint Francis has won 10 of its last 12 games, most recently sweeping Penn State in a doubleheader. The Red Flash are 26-17 on the year and 6-0 in Northeast Conference play.

The Red Flash have three hitters batting over .300 this season, with Madison Cabell leading the way at .323. Sierra McKee is right behind her at .315 and Cheyenne McKee is batting at a .310 clip.

Cabell leads the Red Flash in run support with 12 home runs and 41 RBI, both team highs. She ranks 30th in the country in home runs.

Abby Trahan is the ace of the Red Flash staff, ranking eighth nationally with 20 wins and 21st in the NCAA with six shutouts. She is 20-11 with a 2.63 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 194.1 innings of work.
