Bryant takes on UMass Lowell in midweek action

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team takes a quick break from Northeast Conference play to meet with UMass Lowell on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Wednesday marks the sixth all-time meeting between the two teams. Both teams were set to meet for the past two years, but each game was canceled due to weather.
  • The last time the Bulldogs met with the River Hawks was in 2016 in Smithfield. Bryant won the single-game, 4-1.
  • Bryant's only loss to UMass Lowell came in 2015 in game one of a double-header in Lowell, Mass. The Bulldogs dropped a 10-9 decision before taking game two, 5-1.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS

  • UMass Lowell enters Wednesday game with a 14-12 record after winning its last six games.
  • Junior Courtney Cashman leads the River Hawks and the America East in multiple categories. Cashman ranks first in the conference in batting average (.592), doubles per game (.42), hits (45), home runs per game (.31), OBP (.667), slugging percentage (1.079) and total bases (82).
  • In the circle, the River Hawks rely on sophomore Lovina Capria. Capria has tossed 87 innings so far this year, accumulating 57 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.09.
  • As a team, UMass Lowell excels in slugging percentage. They rank second in the America East with a team percentage of .413 and average almost one home run a game. In four of their last five games, the River Hawks have posted multi-home run games with three coming in a 5-2 victory over Maine.
  • Danielle Henderson leads UMass Lowell in her fifth season as head coach.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Junior Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) has been a proven force this weekend on the offensive and defensive end. In her first weekend appearing at the plate, Ermish posted a .500 batting average with one double, one home run, and four RBIs. In the circle, she posted wins in both games that she tossed, compiling four strikeouts and only one walk.
  • Freshman Toni Camarillo (Corona, Calif.) continues to be one of the hardest players in the Northeast Conference to strikeout, posting just four strikeouts on the year. Her last strikeout was on March 15 against Drexel and the rookie has yet to strikeout since.
  • Tiffany Bell (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) led the Black and Gold with four stolen bases. Bell posted a .429 batting average for the weekend with six hits, one double, and two RBIs.
