Rhode Island visits Smithfield Wednesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team returns to Smithfield for a single-game showdown with in-state foe Rhode Island on Wednesday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday's game is brought to you by freshman #10 Jocelyn Bodington (Cumberland, R.I.) and the entire Bodington Family.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Rams hold a 4-1 all-time series advantage over the Bulldogs after topping Bryant earlier this season, 3-0, at the Charleston Invitational.
  • Bryant's only win over Rhode Island came in April of 2015. The Bulldogs beat the Rams, 5-3, in Smithfield.

SCOUTING THE RAMS

  • Rhode Island posts a 13-18 overall record after most recently splitting with A10 foe George Mason on Sunday.
  • Freshman Ari Castillo leads the Rams on the offensive side batting 35-for-92 on the season with a .380 batting average. Of Castillo's 92 hits, she posts seven doubles, one triple and four home runs for a .609 slugging percentage.
  • In the circle, junior Becca Rogers has been the main pitcher for the Rams, tossing a total of 75.1 innings this season. Rogers has a 7-6 pitching record with a 2.32 ERA, and a team-high 75 strikeouts.
  • Earlier this season when the two teams met, Rogers tossed the first six innings compiling nine strikeouts, one walk, three hits and no runs against the Bulldogs.  

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs currently lead the Northeast Conference with a record of 5-1 during conference play.
  • Freshman Toni Camarillo (Corona, Calif.) has climbed the conference rankings and now leads the NEC as the toughest player to strikeout. In 99 at-bats, Camarillo has struck out just four times in her collegiate career and has yet to be struck out by a pitcher in the NEC.
  • Sophomore Morgan Powell (Murietta, Calif.) endured a successful week at the plate. During the three-game week, Powell was seven-for-11 with five runs scored and three RBIs. Powell is now ranked fourth in the conference for most sac flies with two.
  • Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) currently leads the Bryant pitchers with a 2.94 ERA. She left Wagner scoreless in game one while tying her season-high with six strikeouts. Ermish is third in the conference averaging 1.77 walks per seven innings.
  • Sarah McKeveny (Bohemia, N.Y.) also help Wagner to no runs in game two. McKeveny broke her career-high with seven strikeouts.
