Bryant squares off with Brown in midweek tilt

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team returns to Smithfield for a midweek non-conference game with in-state rival Brown. The Bears visit Conaty Park for a 5 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, April 23.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Tuesday marks the tenth time in history that the two teams have met in the spring season. The Bulldogs hold the all-time series advantage, 5-4.
  • The last time both teams met was in 2015 when Brown topped Bryant, 2-0, in five innings due to rain.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

  • The Bears post a 10-21 overall record and a 3-12 record in the Ivy League. Brown dropped its last four games to Ivy League opponents. First, the Bears fell to Yale, 4-2, in game two of the doubleheader before Penn swept Brown in a three-game series.
  • Sophomore Madi Cranford leads Brown and is second in the Ivy League with a .418 batting average. Cranford also leads the league in stolen bases per game (0.45) and is the toughest player in the Ivy League to strike out, only striking out twice all season.
  • Freshman Lauren Innerst leads the Bears in the circle accumulating 53 strikeouts in 85.2 innings. Innerst is 4-8 on the year with a 2.53 ERA.
  • As a team, the Bears leads the conference in fielding percentage committing just 29 errors this season.
  • Kate Refsnyder leads Brown in her first year as head coach.  

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Bryant dropped its first Northeast Conference doubleheader this past weekend at Mount St. Mary's. The Bulldogs are now 7-3 in conference, falling to second place in the conference rankings behind LIU Brooklyn who are 7-1 against NEC foes.
  • The Bulldogs continue to lead the conference in stolen bases per game averaging 1.61. In game one at Mount St. Mary's, the Bulldogs stole a total of four bases led by senior Kaleigh Goulart (Marion, Mass.) with two.
  • Freshman Toni Camarillo (Corona, Calif.) remains the toughest player in the NEC to strikeout. The last time Camarillo struck out was back in March against Drexel at the Maryland Invitational.
  • Junior Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) continues to lead Bryant's bullpen, posting an ERA of 2.77. In 83.1 innings, Ermish has struck out 40 batters, walking 19. She averages 1.61 walks allowed per seven innings ranking her third in the NEC in that category.
