Bryant takes midweek trip to Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – The Bryant University softball team takes a midweek trip to Central Connecticut for a Northeast Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, May 1. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m. at the CCSU Softball Field.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Bryant trails the Blue Devils by a small margin in the all-time series record. Central Connecticut leads, 10-9 after the two teams split last season in Smithfield. The Bulldogs fell in game one, 5-1, before topping the Blue Devils, 9-1, in five innings during the season finale.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS

  • Central Connecticut recently split with Wagner over the weekend in Northeast Conference action. The Blue Devils are now 3-9 against the NEC and 16-21 overall.
  • Central's strength lies in its heavy hitter Sydney Bolan. The sophomore is second in the conference in home runs per game (0.27), and ranks third in RBIs per game (1.00), and slugging percentage (.605). Bolan posts 10 home runs, five doubles, and 37 hits so far this season.
  • As a team, Central Connecticut trails the Bulldogs in the conference rankings for most stolen bases per game with 1.32. Freshman Rian Eigenmann leads the Blue Devils in that category with 0.49 stolen bases per game, ranking second in the NEC.
  • In the circle, Carley Stoker leads the Blue Devils with 65 strikeouts over a course of 106.1 innings. Stoker posts a 4.61 ERA.
  • Central Connecticut is led by head coach Breanna Gleason in her sixth season.   

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Bryant enters the make up week ranked second in the conference with a 7-4 NEC record before finishing game two with Sacred Heart.
  • The Bulldogs rank first in the NEC with 1.60 stolen bases per game. They also rank second for most triples per game with .20 behind Saint Francis U with an average of .29.
  • Seniors Jenna Cali (Franklinville, N.J.) and Kaleigh Goulart (Marion, Mass.) lead the Bulldogs in extra bases. The duo combines for five doubles, four triples, and four home runs. Most recently, Goulart smacked her fourth home run of the season in her first at-bat of the day against Sacred Heart on Saturday.
  • Junior Sarah McKeveny (Bohemia, N.Y.) continues to lead the Bulldogs in strikeouts compiling 52 on the year. Recently, McKeveny retired four batters in three innings pitched against Sacred Heart. McKeveny averages 6.3 strikeouts a game.

The Bulldogs head to Brooklyn, N.Y. to make up an NEC doubleheader with LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, May 4 to close out the season.
