McKeveny and Bodington lead Bryant to 2 wins against SHU

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Sarah McKeveny and Jocelyn Bodington of the Bryant University softball team combined for 14 strikeouts in Sunday's Northeast Conference victories against Sacred Heart.

McKeveny had a career-high eight strikeouts in her dominant complete-game victory versus the Pioneers. Bodington recorded six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

"Great team effort today. We got an amazing effort in the circle from Sarah, Jocelyn, and Kylie to get us going in the right direction, and once the bats got going, they were hard to stop."

How it Happened (Game 1)

  • In the top of the fourth inning, McKeveny hit a leadoff single. Jane Owens then pinch ran for her, which setup Carlyn Hernandez, who slapped a single, which the SHU left fielder miss-handled, allowing the Bulldog runners to advance to second and third base. Aleix Hudson then launched a triple over the right fielder's head, scoring both runs (2-0).

  • McKeveny struck out eight batters. She also went 2-for-2 from the plate.
  • Hudson recorded an RBI triple.
  • Hernandez had two hits.

Key Moment (Game 2)

  • Bryant scored seven runs in the top of the seventh.

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • Hudson began the second inning with a single left field. Olivia Fee was then walked, putting runners on first and second. Megan Marcel then brought Hudson home on a single through the infield, followed by a perfectly placed bunt by Allison Tomaino, who beat out the throw to first while bringing home another run for Bryant. The inning's third run was scored on a Pioneers error, which was caused by a bloop single to the shortstop by Jenna Gardner (3-0).
  • McKeveny hit a leadoff single and then was pinch ran for by Trystan Salvador. Hernandez then laid down a sac bunt, and Salvador advanced to third and scored on an Alexis Clancy double on the following at-bat. The Bulldogs tallied their second run of the inning on a wild pitch in the top of the third (5-0).
  • The Black and gold had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the seventh and scored seven runs on a walk, a Marcel single, a Tomaino single, Courtney Paolantonio double, and a McKeveny double (12-1)
  • SHU scored their second and final run of the game on a solo home run (12-2).
