Gardner and Marcel go deep in loss to Radford

STATESBORO, GA. - Jenna Gardner and Megan Marcel hit home runs in the Bryant Univeristy softball teams' 7-4 loss against Radford in the final game of the Bash in the Boro tournament.

Marcel finished with three RBIs, and Gardner had one on the lead-off home run.

Coach French's Comments
"Tough way to end. Just couldn't get the big hit when we needed it, but overall it was a great weekend to start the year, got a lot of great performances from different kids".

 Key Moment 

  • The Bulldogs had the tying run at the plate with one out in the top of the seventh inning and didn't score any runs.

How it Happened 

  • Gardner began the game with a bang, launching a leadoff home run to left field, giving the Bulldogs an early lead in the top of the first inning (1-0).
  • The Highlanders loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first. Kenney picked up her first K of the day before Radford hit a bases-clearing two-out double to earn a 3-1 advantage.
  • The Black and Gold responded quickly as Ava Paganis hit a triple to start the top of the second inning. Paganis was then brought home on a Marcel sacrifice fly (3-2).
  • Radford regained a two-run lead off of an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the second (4-2).
  • With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Highlanders hit a three-run home run (7-2).
  • In the top of the sixth inning, Amira Rainer hit a leadoff single, which set up Marcel, who launched a two-run home run to get Bryant within three (7-4).
