Bulldogs split at Day 1 of Black & Gold Tournament

MONTGOMERY, ALA. – The Bryant University softball team split during day one of the Black and Gold tournament.

The Bulldogs defeated Alabama St. in extras 6-5 and fell to Jacksonville St. 9-2.

Key Moment (GM1)

  • The Bulldogs scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth.

How it Happened (GM1)

  • Aleix Hudson earned a lead off walk and then Olyvia Smith hit a single advancing Hudson to second. The bases were then loaded off a groundout and fielder choice, leading to a bases-loaded walk drawn by Sam Rohwer (1-0).
  • The Horents countered with two runs in the bottom of the second on a single and double steal (2-1).
  • Alabama State earned a third run on a Bulldog error (3-1) in the bottom of the third.
  • Hornets committed three errors in the top of the fifth, bringing in a Black and Gold run (3-2). The Bulldogs then got an RBI single from Larrow and a solo HR from Megan Marcel (4-2).
  • Alabama State took a one-run lead during the bottom of the fifth, tallying two runs on two singles (5-4).
  • Hannah Cochran hit a one-out single, and then Hudson brought a run home on a single, tying the game at five in the top of the sixth.
  • In the top of the eighth inning, McKenzie McAloon hit a sacrifice, bringing home the eventual winning run (6-5).

  • After tying the game at two, Bryant was held scoreless while JSU tallied seven runs.

How it Happened (GM2)

  • Hudson hit a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning (1-0).
  • JSU then tallied two runs in the bottom of the first to take a lead (2-1).
  • In the top of the second inning, Rohwer hit a leadoff double, which led to the Bulldogs tying the game at two off of an error (2-2).
  • The Gamecocks then countered with seven runs for the remainder of the game, giving Bryant a 9-2 loss.
