Bulldogs enjoy their day at Brown, Watson ties school record

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With championship season on the horizon, the Bryant University track and field team turned in an outstanding meet on Saturday at the Brown Invitational in Providence.

Sophomore Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) was one of the big highlights as he tied the school record in the pole vault. Watson reached a height of 4.40m to set a new personal best and tie the school mark.

Other highlights included a trio of second-place finishes from junior Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.), senior Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) and junior Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.). Malone finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.21m, a mark that puts him second on the all-time list. Walsh finished second in the mile with a time of 5:12.52 and Hayes was second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.84. She now holds the top two times in the event in school history.

Other Top Performers

In addition to his second-place finish, Malone finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.65m. It is top five in Bryant's all-time top 10.

Mike Cooke (Wrentham, Mass.) finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 13.43m.

Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.98m.

Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) finished fifth in the long jump with the second-best jump in program history (5.25m).

Kehma Johnson (Milford, Mass.) finished right behind Malone in the triple jump with a distance of 13.43m.

Joseph Schwab (North Haven, Conn.) finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 46.56m.

MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 26.19. Her time is second in school history and is the fastest time since 2008.

Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) finished third in the 200 with a time of 22.77.

Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 1:58.57.

Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) and Emily McNeil (Shelton, Conn.) joined Walsh in the top 10 of the mile. Tomasetti finished seventh (5:23.02) and McNeil was eighth (5:23.15).

Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) finished seventh in the mile with a time of 4:30.07.

Peter Thorp (Ormond Beach, Fla.) finished eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.31. The time was good enough to enter the top five all-time.

Deion Raper (Brockton, Mass.) also joined the top five all-time in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.93. He finished third.

Antonio Siracusa (Bridgewater, Mass.) finished ninth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.17.
