Tuxbury takes home silver medal on day one of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) earned a silver medal in the 10k to highlight day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Emmitsburg, Md.

The Bulldog women are in eighth with 12 points, while the men sit in eighth with six points. Sacred Heart currently leads the women, while Central Connecticut is atop the men's standings.

A year after finishing fourth in the event, Tuxbury earned her second career medal during the outdoor championships on Saturday. She finished second with a time of 36:18.82, the second-fastest time in program history.

Bryant also got a strong performance in the 10k on the men's side from senior Blake Fenwick (Thomaston, Conn.). He finished sixth with a time of 33:32.09.

Top Performances

Freshman Justin Patterson (Marshfield, Mass.) qualified for the finals in the 400 with a time of 49.38.

Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) and Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) both qualified for the finals in the 1500 with times of 4:05.19 and 4:05.66.

Freshman Deion Raper (Brockton, Mass.) made a strong debut at the outdoor championships, qualifying for the finals in the 110m hurdles (15.43) and the 400m hurdles (57.67).

After earning a medal during the indoor championships, freshman MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) qualified for the finals in the 400 (58.11).

Senior Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) will make a finals appearance in the 800 after posting a time of 2:20.46 on Saturday.

Bryant received an outstanding performance in the 1500 from the trio of Martha Reynolds (London, England), Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) and Emily McNeil (Shelton, Conn.). All three qualified for the finals with times of 4:48.94, 4:49.56 and 4:56.47.

Junior Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) will look to repeat her gold medal in the 400m hurdles on Sunday after posting the top qualifying time on Saturday. She posted a time of 1:02.00.
