Track and Field welcomes Peter Foley to coaching staff

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University Athletics and Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Mitchell Switzer are pleased to announce the addition of Peter Foley as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs' Track and Field program for the 2015-16 season. He will work primarily with the throwers.

"We are excited to add Pete to our coaching staff for this upcoming season," said Switzer. "His experience and success as a student-athlete and as a coach at Vermont speaks volumes. His technical knowledge of the throws and his enthusiasm for the sport fits perfectly with our program and our staff. Having Pete allows us to have a coach for every event group, giving our student-athletes the best possible attention and allowing our program to continue to rise in the NEC."

Foley comes to Smithfield after spending the last seven years at the University of Vermont. He was a four-year member of the track and field team, qualifying for New Englands twice in his career. A captain as a senior, Foley also was a two-time scorer at the America East Championships.

Following his competitive career, Foley joined the Catamounts staff and spent three years working with throwers, multi-event athletes and pole vaulters. Foley was a member of the 2014 America East Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year after helping UVM to a second-place finish, its highest in over 10 years.

He also helped the Catamounts to a third-place finish in the women's indoor meet in 2014 and helped the men finish a program-best fourth at the 2015 indoor championships. UVM's men's team also placed fifth at America East Championships in 2014 and 2015, its highest finish in 20 years.

Foley helped coach three ECAC/IC4A qualifiers, two All-IC4A performers, four All-New England performers, one New England champion, eight America East All-Conference performers and one America East champion.

A native of Oakland, N.J., Foley graduated from Vermont in 2012.
