Bulldogs shine in final tuneup for NEC Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With the Northeast Conference Championships right around the corner, the Bryant University track and field team put together one of its best all-around performances of the year on Saturday afternoon at the Skyhawk Invitational in Easton, Mass.

Hosted by Stonehill College, the Bulldog men finished fourth among Division I schools with 139.50 points. The women finished eighth with 67 points.

The Bulldogs saw several athletes post personal bests on the afternoon and saw one school record fall. The quartet of Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.), Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.), MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) and Shannon Gay (Woburn, Mass.) set a new school record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 48.98.

Top Performers

Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) won the hammer throw with a throw of 48.38m. 

Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) won the 1500 with a time of 3:56.83, the second-best time in school history.

Brian Kraft (Reading, Mass.) won the 200m dash with a time of 23.51.

Kyle Ivanov (Ipswich, Mass.) won the long jump with a distance of 6.33m.

Dempsey finished second in the 100m dash with the second-best time in school history (12.44). She also finished third in the long jump (5.07m).

Hayes finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.97.

Charles Buress (Westborough, Mass.) finished second in the javelin with a throw of 50.79m.

Park finished third in the 400 with a time of 58.57.

Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished third in the 1500 with a time of 4:43.56.

Russell Stevens (Colchester, Conn.) finished third in the 3k with a time of 8:56.68.

Evan Smith (Chester, Conn.) finished fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.38.

Alexandra Watts (Clinton, Conn.) finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 2.95m. It is the second-best jump in school history.

Erin Svensen (Medway, Mass.) and Elizabeth Willmonton (Rowley, Mass.) finished 5-6 in the 3k with times of 10:40.99 and 10:44.03.

Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.), Thomas Mullally (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and Brian Salit (Seekonk, Mass.) all set personal bests in the 800 with times of 1:57.11, 1:57.82 and 1:59.21.
