Fasano pegged NEC Rookie of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University track & field freshman Chris Fasano (Lake Grove, N.Y.) was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Fasano competed in the shot put and the discus at Bryant's lone home meet of the season, the Black & Gold Invitational. The freshman broke the program outdoor record in the shot put, throwing a distance of 15.83 meters and qualifying himself for the IC4A Championships.

In the discus, Fasano threw for a distance of 47.51 meters, the best in the NEC this season by five meters and qualified him for the IC4A Championships in the event. The distance puts Fasano second all-time in program history and was just nine hundredths of a meter away from tying the top mark.

The Bryant track & field team is back in action on Saturday when the Bulldogs head to the UMass Invitational in Amherst, Massachusetts.
