Switzer announces two new hires to coaching staff

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University cross country and track and field head coach Mitchell Switzer has announced two new hires to his Bulldogs staff for the 2018-19 season. Brian Fuller will be the Black and Gold's new Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field coach, while Michael Hulme will be the new Assistant Track and Field coach.

"I'm very excited to have Coach Fuller and Coach Hulme join our staff," Switzer said. "Their commitment to team success and student-athlete development stood out in the interview process. They each bring a wealth of success, knowledge, and passion to the program. We have made a lot of strides as a team over the past few years, and I am excited to see how they will help us to continue that success."

Fuller joins Bryant after a two and a half year stint with American International, where he served as the Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field. He was responsible for writing in-season and out-of-season training plans as well as recruiting. Fuller earned USTFCCA East Region Men's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year in the 2017 and 2018 seasons as well as winning all three men's conference championships in the NE-10 in 2016, taking home titles in men's cross country as well as men's indoor and outdoor track and field.

He graduated Springfield College in 2011 as the indoor 3000m (8:21.42) and 5000m (14:43.32) record holder. Fuller also has the best mark for the 3000m steeplechase (8:56.05) in school history.

Hulme comes to Smithfield after a four-year appearance at Bridgewater State, where he served as the Assistant Track and Field Coach. He also was an assistant at UMass Boston from October 2012 to May 2014. During his time at Bridgewater, he earned USTFCCCA 2015 Men's Assistant Coach of the Year in the New England region. The accomplishments of his athletes during his time at Bridgewater State amounted to over 25 school records and eight All-Americans.

A graduate of North Carolina, Wilmington, he is a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Champion in the pole vault, taking home the title in 2005 and 2007. He also qualified for the NCAA Division I East Regional during those years.

In addition, both coaches were integral parts to their athletes earning national championships while at each school. Fuller coached the NCAA DII Indoor Distance Medley Relay National Championship team, while Chris Perry won the DIII National Championship in the Men's Triple Jump under Hulme's guidance.
