Bryant heads to NEC Championship this weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Ten Bulldogs will make their NEC Indoor Track and Field Championship debut as the Bryant Univeristy indoor track and field team heads to Staten Island, N.Y. this weekend. The NEC Championship will be a two-day event beginning on Friday, February 15 and ending the following day on the 16 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • To kick off day 1, sophomore Amanda Whitham (Newtown, Mass.) is set to compete in the 60-meter hurdles for the first event of the day. Ryan Dumont will follow Whitman in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Dumont recorded his personal best at the Springfield Invitational in January finishing the race with a time of 9.38.
  • Three Bulldogs on the men's side will be representing the Black and Gold in the mile run, including William Bittrich (Duxbury, Mass.), Jordan Dagrin (Prvidence, R.I.), and Jason Dolan (Westford, Mass,).
  • Senior Alec Binette (Glastonbury, Conn.), junior Brian Murray (Westford, Mass,), and sophomore Joshua Pestana (Plymouth, Mass.) will be competing in the 400-meter dash. Last year at the NEC Championship, Murray ran a personal-best of 49.71 finishing eighth in the final heat.
  • The 800-meter run includes four Bulldogs across both the men and the women. Freshman Sarah Freeman (Merrimac, Mass.) will represent the women while Brian Salit (Seekonk, Mass.), Christopher Wrenn (Norton, Mass.) and Dolan will represent the men. Dolan is coming off a fourth place finish in the 800-meter with a PR of 1:53.33 from the NEICAAA Championships.
  • Senior Adam Winiarz (Norton, Mass.) and freshman Ana Lucas (Wakefield, Mass.) will compete in the 200-meter dash.
  • The long-distance duo of Julia Ayres (Collegeville, Pa.) and Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.) will run in the 3000-meter run for the women. Noah Tellier (North Kingstown, R.I.), Matt McGovern (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Ben Carlson (Middletown, Conn.) will represent on the men's side. Last year at the NEC Championship, McGovern ran to a seventh place finish breaking his PR with a time of 8:42.86.
  • For field events, Laura Rizik and Courtney Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) are set to compete in both the weight throw and the shot put event. Kelleher finished 11th a year ago in shot put throwing 11.49 meters. For the men, Chris Fasano (Lake Grove, N.Y.) looks to defend his title after winning the shot put title last season. Brett Cloutier (North Attleboro, Mass.) will join Fasano in the shot put event after breaking his PR at URI last weekend throwing 14.43 meters.
  • Jacob Borgia (Westborough, Mass.) finished eighth at the NEC Championship last year in pole vault as the sophomore is set to compete again in the event. Junior Nicholas Curci will join Borgia as he makes his NEC Championship debut. Shileigh Martinez will make her debut on the women's side.
  • Bryant will also have teams competing in the men and women's distance medley and the men's and women's 4x400 relay.
