Women’s track and field’s historic performance headlines conference championship weekend

BOSTON, MASS.- The Bryant track and field teams took home nine medals and the women's team recorded their best meet in Division I school history at the 2024 America East Indoor Championships. The women's team placed 4th with 93 total points and the men's team finished 7th with 56 points.

Graduate student Aliya Barrows led the way for the Black and Gold, winning the gold medal in the women's 800m in 2:13.13, narrowly beating out UMass Lowell runner Rachel Thomas thanks to a remarkable final lap. Lois Warden and Kalen Knott both earned silver medals in the pole vault and Ashley Brule earned bronze. The men's Distance Medley Relay team comprised of Nolan Hickey, Ethan Ferriola, Aidan Hickey, and Ryan Slaney also had a terrific performance; winning the silver medal on Monday.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Kasey Thomas continued her dominant winter season taking home the bronze medal and resetting her school record in the shot put (14.85m). 

  • Aidan Hickey ended the weekend with two medals as he also took home the bronze in the men's 800m (1:51.93). His time also broke the all-time school record for the event.

  • Ryan Slaney also earned a second medal after finishing third in the men's 3000m run (8:22.06).

  • Mike Marshall Jr. resets his school record in the high jump, jumping 2.00m and earning the bronze.

  • Abby Hamilton finished fourth in the women's mile with a time of 4:55.38 (2nd all-time). This is the first time she has broken the five minute mark in her career.

  • After falling in the mile, Nolan Hickey scored in the slow heat in the men's 1000m; finishing 6th in the with a time of 2:28.01.

  • Aliya Barrows was Bryant's top individual point scorer at the meet with 15 total points.

  • The Bryant women's team scored over 30% more points at this year's championships compared to 2023.

  • The Bulldogs had 7 school records, 42 PRs, & 28 all-time top 10 finishes.

What's next: The Bulldogs will return to Boston for the NEICAAA Indoor Championships which are set to begin on Friday March 1st.
