Burke, Bulldogs announce Class of 2020

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's basketball coaching staff is pleased to announce the signing of the five-member Class of 2020. The class consists of forward Sophia Neubauer, swing players Sydney Holloway and Stephanie Lesko, shooting guard Taylor Wagner and point guard Masey Zegarowski.

Neubauer is a 6-1 forward from Kleinmachnow, Germany, who attends the Tilton School in New Hampshire, where she helped the Rams to two NEPSAC Class B Championships and an appearance in the conference finals last year.

"We are really excited about Sophia's ability," said head coach Mary Burke. "She is able to shoot the three, face up and has great size in the post. Her game is very multidimensional, and that's going to be very important for our team."

A 5-10 guard/forward, Holloway joins the Bulldogs from Morgantown, W.Va. The swing player will graduate from Morgantown High School, where she played basketball for three years, winning the West Virginia AAA state title last season.

"Sydney can do a lot of different things," said Burke. "She can play the forward position and possesses guard skills. She's a very aggressive rebounder who can face up and play with her back to the basket."

Wagner will don the Black and Gold next year upon graduating from Palmetto Ridge High School in Naples, Fla. The 5-10 shooting guard was a four-year varsity starter, who topped the team's stats across the board and also led the state of Florida in made 3-pointers for the first 15 games of the season as a junior.

"Taylor is a very good 3-point shooter," said Burke. "She can also take it off the dribble, but her ability to stretch teams out is going to be a great asset for us. She will be able to step in and help us out after losing players who can shoot the three, like Dani Anderson and Tiersa Winder."

Zegarowski, of Hilton, Mass., will join the team after also attending the Tilton School, where she played alongside Neubauer, winning two titles while starting all four years for the Rams. The 5-8 point guard was a NEPSAC Class B All-Star and also lettered in soccer and track as a freshman and sophomore.

"We are really excited about Masey because she is going to come in and give us depth at the point guard position," said Burke. "Her craftiness, toughness and athleticism at the point is going to provide us with the depth we need."

Lesko, the 5-11 forward/guard from Rumson, N.J., will join the Bulldogs from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School where she started three-straight years for the Bulldogs. The swing player helped the squad win the Group Two State Championship during her freshman season.

"Stephanie has long length, size and she can shoot the three," said Burke. "She has great guard skills but can also play the four, and her versatility will help the team.

"Overall, we think this class is going to help push our program forward with its versatility and depth. It was very critical in the recruiting process to bring in players we felt were going to be able to come in and contribute right away."
