Klein and Holloway help Bulldogs sweep NEC weekly awards

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Alex Klein (Waterloo, Ont.) and Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W. Va.) of the Bryant University women's basketball team sweep the conference weekly awards, as Klein earned NEC Player of the Week and Holloway her second-straight NEC Rookie of the Week honors.

Klein was the team's top scorer and rebounder in both of Bryant's victories last week. Leading the Bulldogs to home wins over Holy Cross and Brown, the senior forward averaged 22.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest. The senior shot 53.1 percent from the floor while producing a near-perfect 10-of-11 clip from the free throw line over 78 minutes of action. The 6-foot-1 forward powered Bryant to a 76-74 overtime victory over Patriot League member Holy Cross, producing 26 points, 18 rebounds, two assists and one block. Klein recorded her second-straight double-double during a 70-67 triumph over America East foe Vermont. The captain netted 18 points and secured 10 boards in a tight game that neither side led by more than seven points. Klein, who poured in 25 points in the November 11 season opener, leads the NEC in scoring (23.0 ppg) through the season's first two weeks.

Holloway helped Bryant pick up a pair of wins and picked up her second-straight NEC Rookie of the Week award as a result. The 5-foot-10 freshman scored 19 points in 35 minutes off the bench. For the two-game home swing, she averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steal per outing, while shooting 62.5 percent from the field. Holloway went 5-for-5 from the charity stripe and scored seven points in only 11 minutes of action during an overtime win over Holy Cross. Logging a career-high 25 minutes the next time out, the West Virginia product tallied 12 points and eight rebounds in a 70-67 triumph over Brown. Holloway hit a pair of free throws to break a 53-53 tie with Brown at the 7:41 mark of the fourth quarter and Bryant led the rest of the way. She has yet to miss a free throw (12-for-12) this season.
