Klein signs with BBC Etzella to play professionally overseas

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University women's basketball recent graduate Alex Klein (Waterloo, Ont.) is extending her basketball career, following her signing with BBC Etzella out of Ettelbruck, Luxembourg.

"A few months ago, I didn't know what I wanted to do career wise after Bryant, but this move to Europe feels right," said Klein. "I figured if the opportunity is there, take it."

The professional basketball club competes in the Total League, which is the highest ranking basketball league in Luxembourg. The league is made up of 10 teams within the country. BBC Etzella has captured the league title 14 times, while also winning 22 Luxembourg Cups.

The Ontario native was a force for the Bulldogs, leading the team with 15.4 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game in her senior season. Klein earned First Team All-NEC as a senior and helped the Bulldogs to their best-ever NEC finish, as they reached the conference finals. The forward finished her four-year Bryant career with 780 points and 434 rebounds.

"Bryant was the perfect fit for me and I am grateful that such a prestigious school opened the door for me to play professionally," said Klein. "My success in my last couple seasons at Bryant were big stepping stones for me in furthering my basketball career and the hard work and dedication was well worth it."

"I am happy for Alex who will take her game to new heights playing overseas," said head coach Mary Burke. "It will be a great experience for her to continue to develop her game at the next level. I am sure she will do extraordinary things with the opportunity."

Klein will join her new team in August, which will consist of mainly local athletes and a few international players.

"I am unbelievably excited for this opportunity and can't wait to meet my new family in Luxembourg," said Klein.
