Sydney Holloway takes home Player of the Week honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After helping the Bulldogs go 2-0 to kick off the season, junior forward Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W. Va.) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday. Holloway is the first player in the Northeast Conference to take home Player of the Week laurels for the 2018-19 season.

In Bryant's season opener at UMass Lowell, Holloway scored 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and made three steals to help the Bulldogs defeat the River Hawks in a close 58-57 victory. With ten seconds remaining in the game, Holloway sank two free throws to tie the game. As the clock winded down to just three seconds, Holloway stole the ball from Lowell and attempted a fast-break layup with a chance to win the game. The West Virginia native was fouled on the play and sank a free throw to win the game with just 0.2 seconds remaining.

On Thursday evening during Bryant's home opener against in-state foe Brown, Holloway posted an impressive 27 points and 20 rebound performance helping the Bulldogs to a 75-57 win.

In addition, senior guard Haley Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) was named as one of the NEC prime performers for week one as she scored in double digits in back-to-back games for the Bulldogs, which she has not done since 2017. Connors posted a career-high of 18 points against Brown and made four three-pointers in both of Bryant's opening games. The senior is now shooting 48 percent from behind the arc.
