Bulldogs drop to St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday night

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Senior Sydney Holloway's (Morgantown, W.Va.) double-double performance wasn't enough as the Bryant University women's basketball team fell to St. Francis Brooklyn, 80-77, on Friday night in Brooklyn.

Four Bulldogs posted double-figures, led by Holloway with 19 points. Brooke Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) added 16 while Nicole Gallagher (Foxboro, Mass.) trailed with 14. Freshman Alana Perkins (Wauwatosa, Wis.) chipped in 12.

  • The Terrier's 13-2 run to start the fourth quarter gave St. Francis Brooklyn a ten-point cushion as they rode out the advantage for the remainder of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • St. Francis Brooklyn converted an and-one into a three-point play by sinking the free throw to spark a 7-0 run. The run gave the Terriers the advantage, 9-4, halfway through the first frame.
  • A short jumper from Bjelko put the Bulldogs within one, but the Terriers went on to get a layup just before the buzzer to hold onto their lead, 16-13, at the end of the first quarter.
  • Holloway came out hot in the second quarter when an offensive rebound and the put back fueled a 6-0 run to give Bryant the lead, 23-18.
  • The Bulldogs held onto their lead to close out the half, outscoring the Terriers, 20-10. Holloway exploded for ten points in the second quarter alone to help lead the Bulldogs to a seven-point cushion at the halftime break.
  • Both teams went back and forth all quarter long until a buzzer-beating three put St. Francis Brooklyn within one, 55-54.
  • The Terriers exploded from the three-point line in the third quarter, posting 83.3 percent off five-of-six shooting from behind the arc.
