Perkins and Fortuny score 18 in win at UNH

DURHAM, NH. – Mariona Planes Fortuny and Alana Perkins of the Bryant University women's basketball team scored 18 points in the 61-54 victory against New Hampshire on the road this afternoon.

 Fortuny's 18 points is a career-high, and Brooke Bjelko tallied 12 points to give the Bulldogs three double-digit scorers in the victory.

  • .Perkins drilled a corner three with 40 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a five-point lead.

 How it Happened

  • The Black and Gold got off to a slow start being outscored 8-2 in the first four minutes of the starting quarter.
  • Both teams scored 12 points each in the remaining six minutes, which resulted in a 20-14 lead for UNH. Bjelko had eight points in the quarter, Juliette Golden contributed four, and Fortuny recorded two.
  • Bryant tallied 11 points in the first five and a half minutes of the second quarter, which shrank the deficit to two (27-25). Then, Megan Bodziony drove to the bucket and converted the and-one to give the Bulldogs a 28-27 lead with four minutes remaining in the half.
  • Perkins then scored eight straight points on two three-pointers, along with a lay-up from Bjelko to earn a 36-31 advantage at halftime.
  • Perkins scored 13 points on five-of-five shooting from the field in the second quarter.
  • The third quarter was a defensive battle as the Black and Gold recorded 10 points, and held the Wildcats to six. This resulted in a 46-37 lead for the Bulldogs heading into the final period.
  • UNH outscored Bryant 10-6 in the opening six minutes of the fourth quarter. This minimized the Black and Gold lead to five (52-47).
  • Four free throws from Fortuny and seven points from the Wildcats made it a 56-54 lead for Bryant with 50 seconds remaining.
  • Then off of a made UNH three-pointer, Bodziony sent an outlet pass to Perkins, who planted behind the three-point line and drilled the corner triple to make it a two-possession game.
  • Two Bjelko free throws resulted in a 61-54 victory for the Black and Gold.
