Bjelko posts 17 in road loss to CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – Brooke Bjelko of the Bryant University women's basketball team tallied 17 points and eight boards in the road loss to Central Connecticut.

Mariona Planes Fortuny recorded 12 points, Nicole Gallagher and Alana Perkins posted 11 points and drilled three tripples each.

 How it Happened

  • The Bulldogs got off to a fast start, recording an 8-0 in the first two minutes of the contest. CCSU would fight back, outscoring Bryant 19-15, resulting in a 23-19 Black and Gold lead. Bjelko scored 10 points, Fortuny had six, Fatou Jallow recorded five, and Juliette Golden posted two.
  • The Blue Devils opened the second on a 10-3 run heading into the second-quarter media timeout, taking the lead (29-26). Bryant would fight back with consecutive three-pointers in the final two minutes of the half from Gallagher, resulting in a 43-35 halftime deficit. Gallagher recorded nine, and Bjelko posted three.
  • The Bulldogs were outdueled 18-12 in the third period, which created a 61-47 lead for CCSU. Perkins tallied five, Bjelko had four, and Fortuny posted three.
  • The Black and Gold got the lead down to seven (63-56) with six minutes left, behind two Perkins triples, and baskets from Jallow and Fortuny (63-56). CCSU scored 13 compared to Bryant's seven for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 76-63 defeat.
