Bulldogs make AE debut at home against Maine on Thursday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant Univeristy women's basketball team will make their America East debut against the reigning regular-season champion Black Bears of Maine at the Chace Athletic Center on Thursday afternoon.

THE SERIES
The Black Bears lead the all-time series 6-3 and have won the last four meetings. This is the first matchup since 2018. 

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine heads into Thursday's matchup with a 4-8 record. The Black Bears have won four out of five regular season Championships and have made two trips to the NCAA tournament in the last five seasons. Adrianna Smith and Caroline Bornemann lead the team in scoring with 10.7 and 20.5 ppg.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Mariona Planes Fortuny is off to a hot start this year as she leads the AE in PPG with 16.2. She also leads a total of six offensive categories in the conference. Fortuny has recorded two 30+ and six 20+ point games, including the last three in a row.
  • The Bulldogs lead the conference in PPG with 68.2 and have made the free baskets count, as the team is top of the AE in FT% with 73.5%.
  • Marta Neira Martinez has made the most of her starting role, as she is averaging a career-high 1.5 SPG and has recorded at least two steals in the last four games.
  • Nicole Gallagher and Alana Perkins have made a three-pointer in the same game five times this season. The Black and Gold are 3-2 in those games. Perkins currently ranks fifth in the AE with 1.83 three-pointers made per game.
  • This will be the first time in program history that the Bulldogs will play an America East conference game.
