Bryant falls to UMBC on Saturday
BALTIMORE, MD. – Mariona Planes Fortuny scored 25 points in the Bryant University women's basketball team's 69-60 defeat at UMBC on Saturday.
Kemari Reynolds set a career-high 12 points on 5-12 shooting. Nicole Gallagher scored nine and went 3-6 from deep.

How it Happened
- UMBC got an early lead with a 12-9 advantage at the media timeout. Fortuny scored the first six for Bryant, and Lucie Castagne nailed a three in transition before the media timeout.
- Both teams went back and forth. The Retrievers ended the quarter with a 21-19 lead. Fortuny scored four, Gallagher hit a straightaway three, and Reynolds got a strong and-one finish in the lane.
- UMBC came out on an 11-5 run, earning a 32-24 lead with 4:26 remaining in the first half. Fortuny scored two, and Alana Perkins got on the board with a three.
- The Retrievers came out of the media timeout on a 7-0 run (39-24), forcing the Black and Gold to call a timeout at the 2:44 mark in the second quarter.
- Lucie Castagne came out of the media timeout and nailed a corner three, Fortuny got a turnaround jumper to fall, and Reynolds finished the layup with 3.4 seconds remaining, making the score 39-31 at the half.
- Bryant opened the third quarter, scoring eight compared to the Retriever's three (42-39), cutting the deficit to three. Gallagher hit two threes, and Fortuny scored to start the quarter.
- UMBC responded with a 15-8 run that was ignited by the Retrievers playing a full-court press (57-47) at the end of the third.
- The Bulldogs opened the fourth on a 4-0 run (three from Reynolds and one from Marta Neira Martinez), making the score 57-51. UMBC countered with a 5-0 run before the media timeout (62-51), increasing their lead to 11.
- Bryant scored nine to UMBCs seven, making the final score 69-60 in favor of the Retrievers.
