2023-24 Women's Basketball Season Preview

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's basketball team is set to begin the 2023-24 season on Monday against Dartmouth at home.

A new era will begin on Monday, as Bryant alumna Lynne-Ann Kokoski will begin her first season as head coach of the Black and Gold, replacing Mary Burke. She will joined by assistant coaches Sarah Assante and Cristina Centeno, also in their first year with the Bulldogs.

The Black and Gold are bringing back nine players from last year's team and have six newcomers. The Bulldogs are highlighted by their leading scorer, Mariona Planes Fortuny.

Fortuny was named to the Second-Team All-Americs East and the All-Defensive team last season and set the DI program record for 20+ point games in a season with 10. She finished second in the conference in ppg (15.7) and blocks per game (1.7).

Fortuny is joined by Lucie Castagne, Kemari Reynolds, Megan Bodziony, Stephanie Mayerhoffer, Alejandra Ferreirós, Nina Karlin, and Marta Neira Martinez for the returners. The returners have combined for a total of 170 games and 115 starts.

The Black and Gold brought in five freshmen in the offseason (Alana Scott, Silvia Gonzalez, Martina Boba, Mia Mancini and Nia Scott), along with sophomore transfer Breya Busby, who comes from Liberty University.

Bryant finished last season with a 9-21 record and fell to Vermont in a highly contested quarterfinal game.
