BROWN ROLLS TO 19-4 WIN OVER BRYANT IN WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BOXSCORE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 19-4 non-conference decision to visiting Brown in the inaugural Ocean State Cup game at the Bryant Turf Complex.

Brown (5-4) raced out quickly, scoring the game’s first nine goals and never looked back , scoring just 46 seconds into the contest on a free position goal immediately following the opening draw.  The Bears would make 9-0 with a goal with 10:43 left before Bryant finally got on the board as Kayla Manzi (Agawam, Mass.) took a feed from Lauren Sheridan (Bethpage, N.Y.) in transition and beat Brown goalie Isabel Harvey for her ninth tally of the season.

Sheridan would get in on the act five minutes later to a free position goal of her own with two minutes left before halftime.  It was her team-best 29th goal of the season.

Brown would take an 11-2 lead into the locker room at the half and led 17-2 before Sheridan netted her 30th goal of the year on a free position shot once again.   Kelsea Gettings (Wallingford, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 2:13 remaining on the clock.

Brown out-shot the Bulldogs 38-13 in the game as goalie Lauren Filippone (West Babylon, N.Y.) finished with 14 saves on the night.  Sheridan finished with four ground balls in the game plus one caused turnover while defender Victoria Kuhns (South Windsor, Conn.) added a pair of caused turnovers for the Bulldogs.

Bryant (2-10) will travel to Monmouth Friday for a Northeast Conference game starting at 3 pm and will visit Mount St. Mary’s Sunday for a 1 pm contest.
