WOMEN'S LACROSSE DOWNED BY NAVY 22-7 FRIDAY

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bryant University women's lacrosse team ran into a strong Navy team that was already playing in its fourth game of the young season Friday afternoon, as the Bulldogs dropped a 22-7 non-conference decision to the Mids on the road.

Navy (4-0) would go up early on the Bulldogs (0-2), scoring just 38 seconds into the contest, but Bryant would answer as Mary Green (Merrick, N.Y.) knotted the score with an unassisted goal a minute later to make it 1-1.

The Mids would rattle off four scores to jump out in front, 5-1, before Lauren Sheridan (Bethpage, N.Y.) netted her third goal of the season 7:33 into the game, an unassisted tally to pull the Bulldogs to within three, 5-2.

But from there, it was all Navy, as the hosts led 11-2 before Green got one past Mids goalie Elaina Ponchione to make it 11-3, but four more scores sent the hosts to the locker room leading, 15-3, at the break.

Maddie Pickett (Stratham, N.H.), Antoinette Lombardi (Wallingford, Conn.), Lisa Vendel (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Emily Bogan (Swansea, Mass.) added second half scores for the Bulldogs, who would be outscored 7-4 in the final frame to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Freshman Brianna Watt (Babylon, N.Y.) got the start in goal for the Bulldogs, making two saves before giving way to Lauren Filippone (West Babylon, N.Y.) midway through the first half.

Bryant picked up 14 ground balls to Navy's 24 and was led by four from Filippone, while rookie Kimberley Sniffen (Redding, Conn.) forced two caused turnovers to pace the visitors. Vendel led the Black and Gold with four of the team's 12 draw controls. Navy held a 35-15 shot advantage for the game with Filippone finishing the contest with four saves.

The Bulldogs will return home Wednesday to play host to Siena College at the Turf Field Complex at 3 p.m.
