Women's Lax Downs Monmouth 10-8

Women's Lacrosse: Bryant 10, Monmouth 8 (final)
Bulldogs host Saint Francis (Pa.) Friday at 7 pm

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Lauren Sheridan (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored five times, while teammate Haley Bloom (Hauppauge, N.Y.) added three scores in leading the Bryant University women's lacrosse team to a 10-8 win at Monmouth Saturday in West Long Branch, N.J.

Winners of three in a row, the Bulldogs (4-8, 3-2 NEC) responded to an early Monmouth goal with six-straight scores of their own, and never looked back. Sheridan pulled the Bulldogs even with the Hawks with a goal at 18:33 after taking a feed from Mary Green (Merrick, N.Y.) to make it 1-1.

Less than a minute later, Bloom put the Bulldogs ahead for good with an unassisted tally and Bryant's offense would continue to roll from there.  Green and Sheridan teamed up once again as Sheridan beat MU goalie Katie Donohoe (nine saves) to make it 3-1 with her second goal of the day. Then, two minutes later after a Katherine Keckeisen (Danbury, Conn.) goal to make it 4-1 Bulldogs, Sheridan made it a hat trick with her third of the day to putting the visitors up 5-1.

Keickensen would add her second of the day to cap the onslaught as the Bulldogs scored all six goals within a span of just seven minutes.

But Monmouth (4-10, 3-3 NEC) would break the run as Gianna D'urso scored on a free position goal to make it 6-2, but two more tallies in a span of two minutes from Bloom, gave Bryant a commanding 8-2 lead.

Two more Sheridan second half goals pushed the Bryant lead to 10-4 midway through the second stanza, but Hawks would make it interesting, scoring the game's final four goals, but the Bulldogs would hold on as Lauren Filippone (West Babylon, N.Y.) came through with a solid game in net, making 12 saves on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs were out-shot in the contest, 25-22, but kept the turnovers down in the game (12, only four in the second half) and were a solid 4-for-8 on free position shots in the game.

Bryant will host Saint Francis (Pa.) Friday and will host Robert Morris for Senior Day next Sunday (noon).
