Shannon Burns named Sector National Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a huge game in the Northeast Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday, senior midfielder Shannon Burns (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) of the Bryant women's lacrosse team was named Sector National Player of the Week, announced on Wednesday.

Facing a deficit for the majority of the Championship Game on Sunday, Burns stepped up when her team needed her most, scoring a career-high seven goals, including five of Bryant's 11 second-half tallies. Burns scored three of her seven markers during the Bulldogs' 8-0 run in the middle of the second half that propelled them to their second-straight NEC Title.

Looking ahead, Burns and the Black and Gold will head back to the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive year, where this time they will face off with #16 Loyola, Friday afternoon (4 p.m.) in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
