Breglia repeats as NEC Rookie of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University women's lacrosse freshman Caitlin Breglia (Long Beach, N.Y.) has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week following a seven-point performance on a 2-0 set.

Breglia earned her second weekly honor after sparking Bryant to two more wins to extend the Bulldogs' streak to five straight and leave them as the only unbeaten left in league play at 5-0.

The freshman scored six goals and added an assist as Bryant defeated Saint Francis U. and Robert Morris on the road Friday and Sunday, respectively. She posted a game-high four goals and five points in a 15-13 win over the previously undefeated Colonials, giving the Bulldogs a key two-goal lead with her final tally of the game, an unassisted score at the 16:49 mark of the second half.

Breglia also scored twice and recorded two caused turnovers and a draw control in a 16-6 victory at SFU. She ranks second among NEC freshmen with 2.25 goals per game this season.

Teammates Jess DeMeo (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and Samantha Santeramo (Wantagh, N.Y.) were also named NEC Prime Performers for their weeklong efforts. DeMeo helped fuel Bryant's offense with seven goals and an assist on the 2-0 week, recording hat tricks in each contest. Between the pipes, Santeramo posted 18 saves over the weekend, including a 10-stop effort that helped the Bulldogs hand RMU their first conference loss. She recorded a .545 save percentage on the week.

The Bulldogs return to action this Friday, hosting Mount St. Mary's at the Track &Turf Complex at 4:00 p.m.
