Santeramo named NEC's Defensive Player of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – For the second consecutive week and fourth time overall, senior Samantha Santeramo (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

The Bulldogs' goalkeeper stopped 15 of the opposition's 28 shots on cage this weekend in Bryant's wins against Robert Morris and Saint Francis U. All six of her stops against the Red Flash on Senior Day came in the second half of the Bulldogs' 21-6 victory, extending Bryant's win streak to six games and clinching a spot in the Northeast Conference postseason.

On the year, Santeramo has only allowed double-digit goals on three occasions and made 10 or more saves in six games this season. This is the senior's sixth-career conference defensive player of the week award and her seventh weekly honor overall from the NEC.

After the weekend, Santeramo remains prominently ranked in the country, placing 12th in save percentage (.507) and 13th in goals-against average (9.39) with one weekend to go in the regular season.

Bryant's regular season ends this weekend with a road trip to Wagner and Mount St. Mary's. They'll open the final weekend with a 2017 conference title game rematch against the Seahawks at 3 p.m. on Friday.
