Bryant travels to Mount for NEC semifinal

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The fourth-seeded Bryant University women's lacrosse team looks to give Mount St. Mary's its first conference loss of the season as they trek to Emmitsburg on Wednesday, May 5 at 1 p.m. for the Northeast Conference semifinals.

THE SERIES

  • Bryant trails Mount St. Mary's in the all-time series record after dropping two meetings earlier this season, 20-11 and 19-8. The Mountaineers lead the series, 6-8.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • Mount St. Mary's claimed the 2021 NEC Regular Season Champion title as they went undefeated during conference play with a perfect 11-0 record. The Mountaineers only dropped two games this season at the very beginning of the schedule to both Towson (10-7) and Navy (10-8).
  • The Mount leads the NEC in assists per game (6.86), clearing percentage (.917), draw control percentage (.581), draw controls per game (14.79), fouls per game (14.36), free-position percentage (.576), save percentage (.527), scoring defense (7.57), scoring margin (9.00), scoring offense (16.57), and win percentage (.857).
  • Alayna Pagnotta leads the Mount and ranks second in the NEC with 39 goals on the year. Pagnotta posted a hattrick in both meetings against the Black and Gold this season. The senior also leads the NEC and is 12th nationally with a .623 shot percentage.  
  • Sara Moeller is Mount's assist leader this season but poured in a team-high five goals and three assists in Emmitsburg against Bryant. Moeller posts 21 assists in 2021.
  • Mount's goalkeeper is one of the best in the country as she ranks fourth nationally with a 7.92 goals-against average and has 80 saves on the year.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • After a 12-11 thriller over LIU, Bryant posts a 7-5 mark and is the fourth seed in NEC postseason play. Since being eligible for postseason, the Bulldogs have yet to miss a Northeast Conference semifinal.
  • Freshman Kenna Kaut earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors after netting the game-winner in the final seconds of the game against LIU. Kaut finished the game with two goals and has netted two goals in each of the last three games.
  • Senior Giana Kapoosuzian also earned NEC weekly honors as she earned a Defensive Player of the Week nod for tying Bryant's D1 single-game saves record with a career-best of 21. The 21 saves are the most in a single game in the country this season. Kapoosuzian leads the NEC and is seventh nationally in save percentage (.526).
  • Sophomore Skylar Simmonds netted the game-tying goal against the Sharks to help Bryant catapult into postseason play. She led with four goals and one assist in the outing and ranks third on the team with 21 goals this season. Simmonds is among the top 10 in the NEC in shots per game (5.09) and shots on goal per game (3.73).
  • Caitlin Bolen is the conference leader in goals per game as she averages 3.27. During Bryant's three-game home stretch, Bolen combined for 14 goals across the three games. The senior also led with five goals in Bryant's last meeting in Emmitsburg.
