Kaut Leads Bulldogs to NEC Opening Win Over Mount

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team was victorious in their NEC opener, defeating Mount St. Mary's 14-10. Kenna Kaut led the Bulldogs with five goals and six total points in the game, while Cassidy Burns led the passing with four assists.

How it Happened

Q1: Bryant scored the first two goals of the game in the first three minutes, taking a lead they would keep for the entire game. Both teams traded goals in a high scoring first, but the Bulldogs were able to maintain a 7-4 lead going into the second.

Q2: Mount scored twice to open the second and cut Bryant's lead to one, but the Bulldogs responded with two goals from Skylar Simmonds and one from Kenna Kaut to end the half with a four goal lead.

Q3: The Mountaineers outscored Bryant 4-1 in the third quarter, once again bringing the score to within one goal going to the fourth. Alexa Weber scored the Bulldogs' lone goal in the period.

Q4: Kaut took over for the Bulldogs in the fourth, scoring all three goals for Bryant in the period to extend the lead. Sam Centofante locked down the opposing goal, saving all three shots she saw in the fourth.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Kaut's five goals tied her season high. She has scored at least three goals in all but one of Bryant's games this season, and her 3.7 goals per game lead the NEC.

  • Cassidy Burns recorded at least four assists for the fourth straight game. Her 3.3 assists per game are the most in the conference.

  • Sam Centofante set a new season and career high with ten saves in the game. Her 50% save percentage was also her best of the season.

  • Bryant's win avenged their loss to the Mount in last season's NEC semifinals. It was also the Bulldogs' first win over the Mountaineers since 2018.
