SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Thanks to senior forward Katy Biagi's (Natick, Mass.) first marker of the 2014 season, the Bryant University women's soccer team took down Maine, 1-0, on a hot Sunday afternoon in Orono.
After a tough, season-opening loss to Hartford of Friday, the Bulldogs (1-1) bounced back on Sunday to close out 2014's first weekend with big road win over Maine (1-1).
"To go on the road and play on a Sunday is difficult enough," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "But to come back with a shutout win after a tough loss Friday is huge."
After narrowly missing a chance minutes into the match, Biagi and redshirt freshman Hannah Crofut (East Amherst, N.Y.) connected on a beautiful give-and-go inside the box to beat Black Bear keeper Claudia Dube-Trempe for the lone score of the contest.
"The early goal really seized momentum of a very physical, back-and-forth game," added Flint. "And our depth played a big role on a very hot day in Orono."
Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) made a trio of stops in her first victory of the year, despite the Bulldogs getting outshot 15-4 in the game.
Bryant returns to action on Thursday when they host an always tough UMass team in Smithfield for a 4 p.m. match.
