Bulldogs drop 1-0 decision at UNH Thurs.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite a game-high nine saves from sophomore goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.), the Bryant University women's soccer team fell to New Hampshire, 1-0, Thursday night in Durham, N.H.

The Bulldogs (2-5) have now played seven games so far this season with each one of them being decided by a single goal, while the Wildcats improve to 2-4 overall on the year.

"Just a very frustrating match," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "We had a couple near misses that trickled just wide of the net, but the bottom line is we did not create enough quality chances, again.

"The bright spot is that all the games have been very competitive but, at some point we need to find a way to win these close games."

The lone score in match came off the foot of UNH's Brooke Murphy who gave her team the 1-0 advantage in the 48th minute off a deflection and an assist from Gabrielle Sloan.

Sophomore Kianna Woods (Stafford Springs, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with a pair of shots on goal, with freshmen Haley Reddish (Natick, Mass.) and Claire Bergh (Calgary, Alberta) each putting one on goal, as well. As a team, the Wildcats outshot Bryant, 12-7, earning the only two corner kicks in the process.

"We had a few balls that were very close with quality services from the outside that just missed our heads," added Flint. "But Kaylan [Conrad] continues to do everything we could ever ask of her, stopping a few of their chances in the first half, while our backline did a much better job controlling play in the second half."

In her seventh start of the year, Conrad made at least nine saves in a match for the third time, while UNH's Mimi Borkan stopped all four Bulldog chances.

The Black and Gold return to action on Sunday when they welcome Akron to Smithfield for the first time in program history. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
