Bulldogs, Seahawks battle to scoreless tie Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team battled Wagner to a scoreless tie Sunday afternoon in Staten Island, N.Y.

Sophomore keeper Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) posted her second consecutive shutout to help the Bulldogs (3-10-1, 1-1-1 Northeast Conference) cap off a four-point weekend, while the Seahawks (6-5-2, 2-1-1 NEC) pick up a point in the NEC standings as well.

"A week ago we were very frustrated with the result at Sacred Heart," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "But today we are happy to take the point. We certainly had our chances on the offensive end but overall we are happy with a four-point weekend."

Wagner outshot Bryant, 16-14, and earned nine corners compared to Bryant's six. Junior forward Scout Benson (Lynnfield, Mass) led the Bulldogs with five shots in the match, two of which were on goal, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Benson and redshirt freshman Hannah Crofut (East Amherst, N.Y.) connected for a promising opportunity inside the box, but the attempt just didn't have enough on it and was thwarted by Wagner GK Katie Marcy. Conrad made six saves in her 14th start of the season, while Marcy stopped eight Bulldog chances herself.

"Our defense is playing extremely well, giving us chances to win games, like on Friday," added Flint. "And if we can find ways to put some balls in the back of the net we will be alright going forward."

Coming off their sixth overtime game this season, the Black and Gold will look to keep the momentum rolling when they trek to Mount St. Mary's on Friday, before heading home to Smithfield to host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.

"The team had a good attitude today and worked extremely hard," noted Flint. "And we are definitely gaining momentum and hopefully that will translate to more positive results in the future."
