Bulldogs find first win of the season on the road Sunday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team defeated Fairfield, 3-1, Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (1-4) earned their first win of the season on the road against the Stags (1-5), notching three goals before Fairfield answered back.

The first goal was in Bryant's favor as a Fairfield player unintentionally headed the ball into the Stags' net, resulting in an own goal in the 21st minute.

Sophomore midfielder Hannah Crofut (East Amherst, N.Y.) tallied the Bulldog's second goal, finding the back of the net off of a set play.

In the second half, sophomore forward Alyssa Riccione (Mohnton, Pa.) netted her first goal of the season after Fairfield keeper Jenna Pike misjudged the play and Riccione was there to finish the break for the Bulldogs.

The Black and Gold kept the Stags off the board for nearly 73 minutes until Anna Borea went unassisted, placing the ball past sophomore goalie Rachel Brightman (Rochester, N.Y.).

Brightman got the start for the Bulldogs, playing all 90 minutes and recording her first decision of her career. The sophomore produced nine saves between the pipes, advancing her total to ten on the season.

The Bulldogs are back in action, traveling to Amherst to take on UMass Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
